Brown Argus

This small butterfly is characteristic of chalk grasslands but can be found in a variety of other habitats from June - early October. Brown Argus Facts: * Despite brown uppersides, they look silvery in flight. * They are often confused with the similar-looking female Common Blue but are less blue and have longer thinner bodies. * They lay their eggs on Common Rock-Rose or members of the geranium family.
