Common Blue

Look out for this pretty species May-October in open grasslands. Common Blue Facts: • Only the male has lilac-blue wings, the females are mostly brown with flecks of orange, black and white. • In Britain, they are the most common and widespread of our blue butterflies, however in London specifically they are outnumbered by the Holly Blue. • During dull weather they will roost, head-down on grass stalks, often several occupying one stem at once. • Early names were: Little Blue Argus, Ultramarine Argus and Cerulean Blue. • Foodplants include Bird’s-foot Trefoil, Black Medick and Lesser Trefoil.
